I think the Top Stories function works on just evaluating the Top 10 spotlighted
posts. If no one spotlights anything, then a post where the author spotlights
himself could make it to the Top Stories page.
It might be a good idea to make it so certain forums can't make it to the front
page. However, any on-topic forum should be allowed (which would include the
.people areas).
My suggestion is to go spotlight a bunch of MOC posts, and urge your friends to
do the same. The 'ugly' posts making it to the front page is analogous to
crooked politicians: They make it there because only a few people vote. If
everyone highlighted/spotlighted every cool MOC they saw, then all of the top
stories would be filled with the cool MOCs being shared.

| (...) You could be right. But a higher threshold would encourage more people to spotlight the on-topic posts, in order to get them in the top stories. You can investigate how adjusting the threshold might affect the results here (URL) I'm pretty (...) (20 years ago, 21-Sep-04, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)
