Hmm. Looking for the presence of something like

(added by some many odd mailers) might get part of the way there in detecting
a reply, but then that would also get false positives where someone was
forwarding something external.
But I wonder about simply checking the Subject header for
m/^[Rr][Ee}:\s*/
If the Subject header matches that regex and the References header is empty,
it should be an excellent bet that the client software which produced the
message is badly broken.

| (...) but what do you do if it is broken? reject it? that's not so friendly - basicly you're saying that you're not allowing people to use eudora with the mail interface... :/ dunno what you can do though - no really good way of know what the (...) (25 years ago, 13-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)
