http server fell down

Apache (the HTTP server on lugnet.com) fell down a few hours ago at
midnight.  Apparently a cron job is stuck doing a 'ps' and the reaper
hasn't killed it because it's gobbling up CPU cycles.  This may or may not
be related, but it's a clue.

Not sure yet exactly what caused Apache to shut down.  Will post an update
here when it's back up.

NNTP (news), SMTP (mail), and FTP are all still running fine.

(...) Apache is back up. Hopefully some post-mortem analysis will give more clues into the reasons for its falling down. One thing I know is that 'ps' definitely has a bug which causes it to spin forever once in a blue moon, and if Apache was (...) (26 years ago, 11-Nov-98, to lugnet.admin.general)
