fix 3 year old software. Standard policy in software is to drop support

Of course in the router code I work on at IBM, we currently support 4
versions of the code, which amounts to like 3 years worth of versions or so.
Of course there is a lot more reason not to upgrade infrastructure code than
to not upgrade end user code.
