Actually, that's not the problem. The problem is that References: is
exactly 511 characters (and yes, I counted.), no more and no less,
long.
It's a documented problem by now, see previous thread here. Cnews does
Bad Things to headers 512+ lines long, but it does Badder Things to
headers exactly 511 lines long -- it adds a spurious newline, which
according to RFC850 specs is interpreted as the end of the header
section (note that the subject: header comes after references: with
the newsclient you use.. mine does references: as one of the last
headers, presumably to avoid just such problems.).
