I see a couple of additional options, which you may or may not like.
1. Use a different newsreader to access lugnet. There's a lot of other great
newsreaders for unix. You'll have to configure them to use a file other
than ~/.newsrc, of course.
2. Or, configure pine to use different newsrc files. Launch pine with
pine -newsrc-path=~/.newsrc-lugnet
(I think that's all you need to do; I'm not a regular pine user....)
You can set up an alias, of course, so you just have to type "lugnet".

If not, I'll grumble and find another way.) There are (...) (25 years ago, 16-Aug-99, to lugnet.admin.general)
