| (...) I'm running in 32-bit color depth, and those are in fact the colors that get rendered. (I checked in photoshop to make sure exactly.) I think the light-warm-brown bar on the left snaps to gray in 8-bit mode. #C8C8C0 -> #CCCCCC #E8E8E0 -> #CCCCCC (It's the same BGCOLOR as the tables in the news traffic page.)
