What effects will this have afterwards?
1) Will the Open Mail Relay problem be solved?
2) Will we see a faster Lugnet, it is kinda slow :( ?

Kind regards, Carsten

In lugnet.announce, Todd Lehman writes:
The lugnet.com server will be taken off-line briefly on Friday, January 31
for an operating system software and disk upgrade.  The outage may be as short
as five minutes or as long as several hours.  E-mail delivery is most likely to
resume first, followed by web service and finally NNTP connections.

This is a major version upgrade to the operating system software running on
the server.  While we don't _expect_ any snafus, please bear with us if the
system is down unexpectedly for an extended period on Friday.

In any event our highest priority is data integrity and completeness.

Thanks,

(...) Yes (...) Disk accesses should be significantly faster. How much of an impact this will have on overall performance is hard to predict. An educated guess might be 20% faster response, although I suppose it could be as little as 2% or as much (...) (22 years ago, 30-Jan-03, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) What is "the Open Mail Relay problem"? Is the Lugnet server currently an open relay? KL (22 years ago, 31-Jan-03, to lugnet.admin.general)
