I checked with a former associate doing business law and she agreed that US
regulations on non-profit organizations linked with or being users' groups
of a commercial product or service is very tricky. Tax advisors would
actually tell you to be careful going down this road. If you would base the
organization in the European Union, you might get away with being
educational and/or consumer rights oriented, but I guess LIGNET is mostly a
US thing.
Just some free advice of a retired paralegal!
