I'm confused (no news there!)

Kyle,

To ease your mind...

(From: http://news.lugnet.com/news/post/?lugnet.announce,1180)

In lugnet.announce, Suzanne D. Rich writes:

** Curatorships to be available in newsgroups **
We're starting a new program for member participation. Each discussion area
(newsgroup) may have its own "curator" - an individual member assigned access to
the web interface's news page for that group. It allows editing of sidebar
contents and the creation of new web pages for that group. These will be created
as FTX documents.

Info about writing FTX documents for building web pages:

Curators may also collect related FAQ data for within their area and for
possible submission to a master FAQ, but curators shouldn't be defined as
"leaders of" or "experts in" their areas. Selection of curators will be done by
LUGNET Admin, but suggestions are welcome. Keep in mind that this includes all
the LUGs, as well as the theme groups and info areas.

So, no moderation of the messages themselves...not content cops (unless
advising folks to move a thread to a more appropriate NG, I assume...but
EVERYONE already does THAT). Just taking some of the pressure off Suzanne
and Todd for the daily doldrums...FAQs and the like. And possibly to add a
bit more administrative "zing", a more active looking involvement by
spreading the work around.

The most important part of the announcement: "...but curators shouldn't be
defined as "leaders of" or "experts in" their areas."

HTH,

Matt

(...) Leaders of, or experts in? no... but "interested in" probably helps... and it might be a good way to build up expertise if one was so inclined. ++Lar (23 years ago, 24-Jul-01, to lugnet.admin.curators)

(...) Just to be clear, I don't want to see a curator follow up someone's post with "this belongs elsewhere" in any way other than, as you say, it's already done. (...) I see it as *truly* allowing more active involvement. Efforts put in by members (...) (23 years ago, 25-Jul-01, to lugnet.admin.curators)
