Re: Do you care about the perception of AFOLs/ALEs in the wider community?

(...) Only when that opinion is positive. (I mean the people at work who see the stuff I build) (...) Around here, it's become accepted as a valid hobby. (...) Doesn't matter outside my head, except that I've encouraged a few people to buy Lego (...) (17 years ago, 15-Oct-07, to lugnet.general)

Do you care about the perception of AFOLs/ALEs in the wider community?

Hi all, One issue which I see brought up on LUGNET quite frequently (mostly but not exclusively in relation to trains) is the perception of AFOLs/ALEs by the 'wider' community (where wider has various meanings). So since I'm a curious fellow I'd (...) (17 years ago, 15-Oct-07, to lugnet.general)

Re: (In)compatibility of RC Trains and Power-Functions

(...) I tried to run the SLTC trains from my bull-dozer controller at our last public show but was unsuccessfull on all channels. I have not tried the RC train controller to drive my bull dozer but i doubt it would work. I susspect the signals are (...) (17 years ago, 14-Oct-07, to lugnet.trains)

  Suggestions for kids' animation festival?

Hi All! I'm planning a big brick event for next weekend[1]. As part of it, I'd like to run some LEGO stop motion movies on a TV there. I need to figure out a selection of "little kid friendly" films. i.e. stuff that won't freak out parents of a (...) (17 years ago, 14-Oct-07, to lugnet.animation)

  Re: Brickfair is official....

(...) Not to bust anyone's bubble, but the DC Festival has always occurred in a window from about mid-June to late August. It's not any closer to BrickCon than it would be to BrickWorld if it occurred earlier in the summer (say, like, July), or any (...) (17 years ago, 14-Oct-07, to lugnet.events, FTX)

  Re: 8480 Technic Space Shuttle

(...) This set is probably my all time favorite lego set of any theme or any time period ever. It is absolutey amazing. I think that the designers of this set had a hugh amount of shear talent. I am pretty sure that nowadays they use computers to (...) (17 years ago, 14-Oct-07, to lugnet.technic)

(In)compatibility of RC Trains and Power-Functions

I am trying to determine whether there is any compatibility between the RC trains infrared remote-control protocol and the Power-Functions infrared-protocol. Does anybody know definitely whether a Power-Functions transmitter has any effect on an (...) (17 years ago, 14-Oct-07, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)

  Time to give props....

....to Wayne Hussey and his able crew, who put on a fest for the ages. I've been to the big show in DC, Brickfest PDX (part1), and the now defunct Bricks-West. This year's NWBC was hands down my favorite fest experience. I didn't think it was (...) (17 years ago, 14-Oct-07, to lugnet.events.nwbrickcon, FTX)

  Re: Brickfair is official....

(...) It also seems an odd choice to be so close to BrickCon (formerly NWBrickCon) which has been early October for several years. A month apart makes it more difficult to attend both. I would have thought that sometime Feb - Apr would have been (...) (17 years ago, 14-Oct-07, to lugnet.events, FTX)

Re: ARM Assembly Language Programming on NXT?

Hi T.C., (...) I have an AT91SAM7S-EK here, it has 4 LEDs and 4 touch buttons. It should also be fairly easy to write a driver for one of the serial ports (polling would suffice for a start). On the NXT the only I/O that is easy to use with the (...) (17 years ago, 14-Oct-07, to lugnet.robotics.nxt.nxthacking)

  A power rail idea

OK, so 9V is dead. Not a happy thought. Still, the engineer in me can't help but think about ways to work within the new regime. After 40 years of off-and-on model rail and toy train activity, the first thought that comes to mind is that anyone who (...) (17 years ago, 14-Oct-07, to lugnet.trains)

  8480 Technic Space Shuttle

Hi Everyone, I just acquired an 8480 set ((URL) As I am sure that most of you already know, I have to say what a fun build this was. I wish LEGO Technic would produce more sets like this. I am not a fan at all of studless construction, to me sets (...) (17 years ago, 14-Oct-07, to lugnet.technic)

(...) Great work, Elroy. Like Tim David mentioned, the 4x4 wedge on the nose is great and I really like the trucks. Could you perhaps take some close-ups of them? (17 years ago, 14-Oct-07, to lugnet.trains, FTX)
