Do you have the latest version? 'Search by stud count' wasn't there until 4.0 (I think). Check the version in the caption bar (top of the window). Get 4.1 from: (URL) installing, you must also do a 'Scan' again, to rebuild the index. (20 years ago, 18-May-06, to lugnet.cad.dev)

(...) MPD would work for any text files, as long as they don't include /\n0 FILE /. One thing MPD would not provide is the mod-timestamp for each file. Using my contacts within the LEGO Factory team I have been able to determine that all train parts (Motor and Track) are from the 9V system not the new IR system.
