| (...) I thought this was a feature, not a problem. I confess I sometimes bid the minimum increment on G2 items just to keep them open. | That's the "Rack Winder," which holds the 1X20 rack piece (2428). It comes in blue in the Ice Planet base, and in black in the Mega Core Magnetizer and the Futuron base.
