  Re: Compressionism (D&RGW coach set)

(...) It's the age old debate b/w 6 and 8 (or other) wide. For me, there are three overwhelming factors for my love of 6 wide and 'selective compression'-- 1. since the minifig isn't to the same scale as a person in all dimensions, making a (...) (21 years ago, 30-Mar-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

(...) Doesn't mean that others don't use it.... We have had a number of TFOL lurkers 'coming out' recently (so to speak); I'm sure there's a better reason. Legoswami (21 years ago, 30-Mar-05, to lugnet.people.kids)

I HATE it when I walk in late on an interesting thread and everthing I want to say has been said already :-( (I hope I don't offend anyone by posting these links, but IMO, these are examples where selective compression (...)   Re: I2C bus for Lego RCX

OK, that's neat! That's a novel way to attach to bricks and electrical connectors. Is the $36 before or after the $10 discount ? Either way, I'll probably be buying one to play with. -JSM (...) (21 years ago, 29-Mar-05, to lugnet.robotics)

  4886 Designer Set Building

Just got the house set last night. Man is it cool, and I haven't even opened the box yet. There a great picture on the box that shows the roof of the house opening up.   Re: caster wheel design

If you are planning on running on smooth surfaces, you might be suprised at how well your robot drives and turns with just one of those domed 2x2 'gliders' instead of a wheeled caster. ---...--- Steve Baker ---...--- HomeEmail: (...) (21 years ago, 30-Mar-05, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Compressionism (D&RGW coach set)

(...) Personally, I try and avoid it like the plague. I consider building 6 wide trains an (unnecessary) exercise in width compression. Of all the types of compression, this particular one makes a train look wonky IMO. There is just no getting (...) (21 years ago, 30-Mar-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: caster wheel design

  Re: Compressionism (D&RGW coach set)

(...) Agreed. Part of the skill (and fun) in building anything real in Lego is to leave in what is essential to the character and leave out what you can get away with to ensure functionality. So, the skill required is beyond simply making something (...) (21 years ago, 30-Mar-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Compressionism (D&RGW coach set)

(...) Less windows, in my view. Typically, most modelers feel compression works better by having less of a repeating element instead of making the element smaller (you could do some searching of back issues of model railroad magazines for articles (...)
