I found a scan of the part. It was used on old Technic sets that I know as Expert Builder Sets (I know that dates me.) It the top pat on the page. (URL) site is Technica. thanks for the comments yes, what you described is correct. the blades of the worm gear are angled acutely enough so that the up/down movement of the legs is not affected by the back/forth. with just one motor, you cant have too many axes of (...) (26 years ago, 12-Aug-00, to lugnet.build)
