If we are not careful we could end up down the same road that railway anoraks
go sometimes whilst away from their sandwiches.

I can see a time when certain LEGO MOC models are banned because;

1. They combine bricks which were never available in the same year
2. They combine bricks or sets which were nevr available (officially) in the
same country.

IMHO, if you rip the LEGO box just slightly when you open it (instead of
neatly breaking along the perforations), you may as well throw the set in the
bin as it ruins the 'perfectness' of the moment. I also ensure that no-one
outside the stated age-range on the box ever plays with any of the elements
inside.

You can imagine the immense pleasure that LEGO brings to me!

I wrestle with the
use of string as a non-LEGO element, (the Znap qualifies)

Why does the Znap qualify?  Please check all that apply:
(1) Because it was sold under the Lego name.
(2) Because it has holes that Technic pins fit in.
(3) Some other reasons (please state).

Things to think about:

* If TLC bought Knex, would Knex then qualify?
* If TLC bought Knex and introduced a single
connector piece: a "Knex-beam-to-technic-peg"
connector, would Knex then qualify?
* Do random plastic playscapes and storage boxes
sold under the Lego name qualify?
* Does use of Lego motor wires as cables qualify?

I think if Lego building competitions were as mature
as, say, Auto Racing, there would be different divisions
based on which materials were allowable.

Personally, I feel that a Znap + Lego bricks structure
is not a "pure" Lego construction.  Not to say there
is anything wrong with that.  I've combined them
myself.  But such a construction doesn't have that
"Lego Look & Feel" for me.

Using homemade stickers for decoration, or non-Lego wires
as cables, however --- those are obviously non-Lego,
yet don't interfere as much with the Lego Look & Feel
as Znap does, IMHO.
