My attempt at a railway bridge

Hi all,

I always meant to show this - but didn't manage to translate the describing page
to English.

Anyway, it's finally done (the page, that is - the bridge itself is still a
work-in-progress). Enjoy:

http://www.zweistein.de/lego/the_bridge_of_bottrop.html

It's not architecturally thrilling, but it's a typical modern German approach at
railway bridges that is commonly found here. It was also an attempt at
evaluating the structural abilities of LEGO technic bricks...

Regards,

Jerry

Nice.  It is nice and beefy - but not too beefy.  I find a lot of technic built
bridges to be a bit to big and clunky for my taste but this has a nice feel and
size to it IMO.

I wish TLG made sand blue/sand green/teal technic bricks. That would be sweet.
In my neck of the woods these types of bridges are typically painted in a muted,
sand like color, if not gray.

Color aside, excellent bridge.

Best,

Jonathan

Thanks Jonathan - I'm happy to get some feedback on it since I really was a bit
unsure lately whether this behemoth was worth all the time and effort. But maybe
I will finally get it finished (with all the fine-tuning that is) to show it on
a suitable event here in Germany. It's certainly way too large to take it
someplace else...

Actually, sand red and dark gray would have matched the original colors quite
well.

As for teal, I find I've acquired a couple of old Cybermaster sets just for the
parts - but I couldn't yet figure out a stable construction using these studless
technic bricks/liftarms - in terms of color it would certainly be interesting.

Color aside, excellent bridge.

Thanks a lot,

Jerry

Very nice, Jerry! Having “been there” (my ISSC 2001 entry!), I know of the joys of building a large technic bridge! I also know of the woes of building an awesome bridge, and then not even being able to use it on one’s layout:-(

But it is fantastic that the kids are coming into the age of being able to participate in your LEGO hobby! It is the ultimate time-spent-with-kids activity in my mind!

Hi John,

actually I remember having seen (and admired) your bridge - what kept me from simply being the old copycat was for one the sheer lack of appropriate bricks and on the other hand the fact that bridges like these are not exactly European (while I like to build American style every now and then, it’s just easier to build something you’re used to in every-day life).

But it is fantastic that the kids are coming into the age of being able to participate in your LEGO hobby! It is the ultimate time-spent-with-kids activity in my mind!

I totally agree - and it is such fun to see the kids enjoy the time with their dad - since unfortunately there’s so little of it.

Thanks,

Jerry

Ha, I had to build a bridge to complete my current layout-

It’s a suspension bridge, as it takes a oodle of parts to make any other total lego solution to 3+ m bridges.
