The clue piece is one of the new clicky hinge pieces, which is in many sets

Not sure if it fit on the standard minifig torso stud, I ordered one, and it
really worked! With the addition of 4 small pieces a nice Admiral Ackbar
turned out with the typical Mon Calamari head shape.

This is a pretty awesome Mon Calamari head. Admiral Ackbar was one of my
childhood favorite, and I’m glad to see it done well. Now I’m off to build my
own.
