Hi Folks,

I’ve never built a space ship, so where to start? LEGO Classic Space could be a cool theme to add jet another ship. The famous LL924 is godfather of my LL924 creation in XL or UCS format. The scale is nearly 2:1 and would work fine in LEGOLAND Miniland.

I tried to convert most of the characteristics of the real LL924 into it’s bigger version:

1. the angled nose

2. the huge trans-yellow window

3. the yellow-black “stripes” on the main wings

4. all-direction-boosters on both sides

5. Classic Space logos (instead of using stickers I tried to build them)

6. the down arrow at the opening hatches

7. main tail with closing “tile”

8. powerful rear boosters

9. forklift, crew and the magic white box

The main wings are build sandwich-like with many 1x1x1 bricks with 5 studs inside. This technique allows to add some “decorations” between the upper and lower wing-slice.

Spacemen also had to grow a bit. The Technic helmet gives a good XL version of the classic space helmet. The rest of the figures is built with bricks. I also tried to convert some of the equipment to XL scale.

Have fun with the complete gallery at: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=270254 (after moderation)

Holger

P.S. Sorry for any mis-naming of space specific parts and terms.

Hi HoMa,

My childhood favorite theme is Classic Space so I really appreciate this MOC. My favorite part on it is the embossed Classic Space logo on the front. I hope you will bring this to TSL 2007 Berlin.

Regards, Akos

Hi Akos,

thanks for your feedback. Yes, the main logo on the front was tricky. There was
not enough space for a mosaic like logo so I had to come up with another
solution.

And yes, the LL924 XL will stop by in Berlin next weekend.

See U
Holger

Cool stuff,

It’s been years since I built an enlarged 924, so maybe this is news again. Mine was at a x3 scale.

Hi Eric,

I didn’t know about your times-3 version of the LL924. Yours is pretty close to the times-1 version. I tried to include some UCS like stuff you can find on Star Wars UCS sets and some other details which could not be realized in the times-1 version (either years ago they didn’t have enough cool elements or the size is just to small for more details?).

When did you built the times-3 version? Sounds like the early days of bricklink, e.g. if you search for 2x2 round tiles in blue today you will find a lot of them: http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?invXrefID=1819&invType=F

Anyway, for me it was a cool building experience using a LEGO set as prototype rather then any real existing building, (space)ship, car or whatever.

I built it four years ago. I have not done much building of LEGO things since, so I don’t know how easily the whole thing could be built now.

It would be interesring to get all of the various sizes together in one place grin.

Spotlighted. Lemme know if you post instructions.
