|I downloaded RobotC from CMU - www-education.rec.ri.cmu.edu.  It does

|have a great long term potential. It does not have the capability to do

|a lot of more advanced stuff though, such as events/interrupt.

|I'd like to compare 3 software in terms of their robotics/computer

|science educational value:

|-      NQC & NXC

|-      RobotC

|-      MS Robotics SDK

|NQC :==========================================

|Only support RCX, and need a BrickCC installed separate as the firmware &
IDE

|Pretty full set functions, supports events . But, can I monitor

|different port or sensors feedback??? Is it preemptive?

|NXC :==========================================

|Very much like NQC, but it requires  a separate firmware, it also needs

|another layer called NBC (NXT Byte Code). Humm.

|Well, it is very new, perhaps they all will be merge into a single package.

|Completely text-based

|RobotC :==========================================

|Only support NXT and VEX.  It is like nqc, but not as compete yet. It

|does not support event monitoring.

|Completely text-based, but It comes with a IDE

|MS Robotics SDK: :==========================================

|Support both RCX and NXT.

|It does not have a firmware for the NXT, nor RCX. So, it can only

|"interface" with the bot thru a driver software like bluetooth.  That

|means your bot must communicate with the MS Robotics Software during run
time.

|I see this as the only down side of this.  Unless this runs on a CE OS,

|your bot will need be strong enough to carry a laptop while it is running.

Then, there is this NXC, a future subsitute for NQC?

|Input will be greatly appreciated! I can gather these and create a nice

|comparison table. But then, if someone else has already done, please

|post the url on this forum.  Thank you!!!

(...) The NQC solution supports all LEGO programable bricks from the CyberMaster to the Spybot, including the RCX. The Scout, RCX, and Spybot platforms supports event monitoring (for the RCX this requires the 2.0 firmware). If you obtain NQC by (...) (18 years ago, 11-Jan-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

(...) Elizabeth, It may be very useful to create a table, with columns for these different programming environments, and then you could have rows for all the features. That would make it easy for people to help you fill in the blanks. You may want (...) (18 years ago, 11-Jan-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

(...) I went ahead and put together a programming tools comparison chart that attempts to leave out any subjective information. It covers only the NXT and not previous generations of LEGO MINDSTORMS products. (URL) Hansen (18 years ago, 16-Jan-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)
