Hello Everyone,
I have now built a governors mansion for my town. His Excellency The Marques
de Afilado, Captain-General of His Most Catholic Majestys domain of El Cubo
(The Brick!), is visiting his new home, accompanied by his loyal guards. You
can see it here:

I thought Id post something other than ships, for a change. Tell me what you
think!
Aaron :)

Bah! The interior needs work.
;-)
We havent had a pirate era building for a while, and this is certainly a nice
one.
The yellow/white with black and red colour scheme which lego established is
certainly spot on.
I really like that youve successfully incorporated the smiley/grumpy bricks and
the curviness of the front verandah. The coach and escort are great too.
The only area for improvement (besides the interior), would perhaps be a more
detailed garden. A water feature (or two) together with some formed flowerbeds,
and perhaps a statue, would complement the mansion nicely.

I thought I forgot to add the explanation in my post! I could have built an
interior, but I find that they dont always last long (oooh, thats the perfect
piece for my new ship - rip!)

Thank-you!

Thats a good idea - flowers are easy, as well as water (reflecting pools,
maybe?) The statue Ill probably leave for the town square. Time to go to
work!

While I agree that your use of the smiley/grumpy bricks is great (salvages an
otherwise pretty unusable printed brick), it does point out a problem:
I have a hard time seeing them as anything other than grumpy bricks.
Of course, to a non-Lego person, this detail wouldnt even be noticed. And to
someone well-versed in using pieces in non-traditional ways, it probably seems
effortless. But to me, I stuggle with these sorts of things. There is a word I
am looking for to describe it - myopia? I have a hard time seeing pieces being
used outside their usual function. I have the same problem trying to build in
any orientation other than studs up. What can be done to alleviate this
building block?
