Marc, I will endeavor to be as simple as I can in my reply, I hope you will be
able to read deeply into the answers, as short as they are.

Did you post this message because you are saddened,

If you dont like the contest sponsors ruling, then
do something helpful, like John Neal did.
|
If I had one of those heads I would have also made an offer. After the first
offer was made, any further offers would be moot.
|
Or maybe sponsor your own contest -
one without rules, perhaps?
|
I routinely hold contests with many lose and vague rules, all with the guidance
of a simple phrase Spirit of the game.
Ergo, to see other strict rule enforcement within the WEC made me sad.
|
Why all the outrage over the fact that a contest has rules and that those
rules were enforced? The response is especially inexplicable given that the
situation seemed to have been resolved quite nicely before it was taken up as
a cause celebre.

There was no outrage, I simply said I was saddened then promptly forwarded
this to O.T.D. to show my respect to the forum, and contest. The outrage
happened when people reply to my post with sarcasm.
If you want sarcasm just let me know.

Me! Me! Me!!! I want sarcasm!!!!!!
If it was my contest, and only if it was my contest, I would have stated in 'da
rulz' that Joe Vig has to be composed of such'n such colour of torso, legs, and
use Ron's head.
*However*, I would have also specified that, in lieu of Ron's head, you could
use the classic smilie face 'cause that's all there was from '78 until a few
years back--and if people stopped pruchasing LEGO in the past decade, they would
not have had any minifig head besides the classic smilie face.
See, the torsos and legs that make up Joe Vig have been around since mini-figs
began. Ron's head--not so much. I think that's a legitimate consideration.
Sure, Ron's head is easily purchased from Bricklink (or given, as John so
wonderfully demonstrated). That said, 20ish years of 1 smilie face should also
be deemed sufficient.
But that's just me.

I stopped purchasing Lego before 1978, and I *demand* to be able to
submit a Joe Vig contest entry using my blank-faced and armless old
minifigs. With a police hat, not the fancy brown male hair from 1979.
I also see the need for an alternative using only regular bricks to
build Joe, in case someone stopped purchasing Lego before the early
1970's and feels left out.
We also need rules for a 2:1 scale 16x16 vig where you don't need
to have access to the fancy new 1xN slim bricks introduced in the
sixties.
Seriously, I doubt that anyone on Lugnet has *stopped* buying Lego.
I did stop before 1978, but I soon started again, when Technic
took off and became a good excuse to keep buying.
In my opinion, a vignette entry and any other public posting is
a good and welcome *reason* to buy a few extra pieces.
But I can quit any time I want. Really. Just not right now.
