NWBrickCon 2006 is looking for people who want to present a talk, moderate
a roundtable, or run a special activity at the Con this year.
We already have some traditional activities---like a Dirty Brickster,
Wacky Races, and Draft---lined up, but there are still several spaces
open. In the past, we have had slideshows, presentations on building
techniques and styles, discussions of how to package MOCs for shipping,
and more.
The Con runs October 6, 7, and 8 (move-in October 5). Talks and
activities will most likely be scheduled Friday afternoon and evening,
Saturday and Sunday morning, and Saturday evening, with roundtables during
public hours (11-4 Saturday and Sunday).
If you are interested in presenting, please e-mail me (my first three
initials @morfydd.net) with the title of your talk/roundtable/activity, a
brief description (for the Event Program), and any time restrictions (if
you won't be getting in until later Friday, for instance).
Deadline is Sunday, September 10.
Presenters (and everyone else) can register for the Con at
http://www.nwbrickcon.org
Hope to see you at the Seattle Center!

Yes, once again it is time for the Dirty Brickster at NWBrickCon. Yes, it is
once again time to peruse your various Lego and Lego related stuff to find that
perfect gift to exchange, that thing you don't really need but that someone else
may go ga-ga over, or possibly agree that it sucks, or maybe if they are lucky
will at least be able to trade it for something good at Wal-Mart.
So bring your gift, valued in the $10 to $20 range to NWBrickCon for the Dirty
Brickster. Make sure it is wrapped. We will draw numbers and you can choose a
mystery item or be a Dirty Brickster and steal someone else's treasure! Only 3
steels allowed per item (with the possible exception of the first person - we
will vote on that before the event).
This is always great. And I promise this year I'll be bringing something a lot
better than Mushroom Bins (although of course, these excellent sorting and
storing bins will once again be available for you to test and purchase!)
It isn't too late to register for the best Brick show in the Northwest.
Register now at www.nwbrickcon.org, and we will see you October 7th-9th!
-Matt :)

NWBrickCon 2005 would like *you* to present, facilitate, or run a talk,
round-table, class, or special activity.
NWBrickCon schedules several classes and special events throughout the
Con---seeing and sharing MOCs is fun, but a Lego fan convention offers
special opportunities for us to learn from each other and to share unique
activities.
Currently we have many special activities scheduled, including a draft, a
master build, a speed build, Wacky Races, and talks on Micro building,
landscaping, and packing Lego.
Past activities and talks not yet taken for this year included theme
roundtables, DCC and Lego Trains, the LDraw system of tools, and more.
Sessions typically run twenty to fifty minutes in length. A/V
presentation equipment (projector, PowerPoint, etc.) will be
available---please let us know about your needs in this area.
If you would be interested in running/giving/facilitating a
seminar/session/activity please e-mail
present (at) nwbrickcon.org
Please mail your proposal as soon as possible, but no later than September
16th (we need to firm up our schedule by then to ensure inclusion in the
Event Program). Scheduling will generally be on a first-come,
first-filled basis.
Presenters can present to AFOL Con attendees. Also, the Con incorporates
a public exposition (12--4 Sat & Sun) and we welcome talks or activities
directed toward the non-AFOL public.
Presenters must, of course, be Con attendees. Preregistration closes next
Wednesday, so register now if you haven't already. Information on
registration and the Con is general is available at
http://www.nwbrickcon.org/

This is somewhat of a repeat, but the deadline for pre-registration is fast
approaching... Bring your Lego wares to NWBrickCon!
NWBrickCon will be held October 7th-9th at the Seattle Center. And the Brick
Bazaar is a fanstastic time to unload your surplus Lego or move some product
from your retail inventory. If you want a full or half table reserved for you,
please let me know as soon as you can. There is no table fee, but a donation
for the door prize would always be appreciated!
The public will be in for a while on Sunday to the Rainier Room (not the Brick
Bazaar room). If you want to sell your wares to the public (not just conference
attendees) it is an option. However it will require you to get a City of
Seattle Business Liscense (cost of around $45 I believe). If you are getting
the liscense and want a table(s) during the public time, let me know and we will
work out the details.
If you just have a few sets to sell (not parts) there is a local toy dealer
(Math 'n Stuff) who will be there, and they have agreed to act as agent and sell
to the public for you! You will need to keep an eye on your own merchandise
during the public time if you do that. It is a great, EASY way to sell custom
sets or older retired sets.
Remember, to sell to conference attendees during the regular Brick Bazaar is a
no-fee and no-liscense needed thing! So just send me an email at
mattchiles@gorge.net to sign up and reserve your space.
Oh yeah, we will provide tables and skirting. You bring stuff to sell, shelving
if needed, bags if appropriate, change box & small change, business cards, table
cover sheet for while you are gone, signs and price tags, some paper and pens
for notes you may need to take, and all that sort of stuff. Don't plan on
electricity being available at your table, although we will do our best to
accomodate if needed (bring your own extension cord and we will see what we can
do). And DON'T FORGET TO REGISTER FOR THE CONVENTION NOW at www.nwbrickcon.org!

I'm in charge of the Brick Bazaar at NWBrickCon again this year, and it is
comming up fast! This year NWBrickCon will be held October 7th-9th at the
Seattle Center. The Brick Bazaar will be a much better location this year (the
Olympic Room) than last year.
The Brick Bazaar is a fanstastic time to unload your surplus Lego or move some
product from your retail inventory. If you want a full or half table reserved
for you, please let me know as soon as you can. We don't even have a table fee,
but we would request you donate something to the door prizes if you can.
The public will be in for a while on Sunday to the Rainier Room (not the Brick
Bazaar room). If you want to sell your wares to the public (not just conference
attendees) it is an option. However it will require you to get a City of

the nicest hotels in the area, and includes a big lobby with online PC free to
guests (20 minute limit courtesy).
Special BrickFest Rate: $69/night (regular $110/night). I have heard that
others have found other hotel rates for slightly cheaper (~$5/night) but they
are either farther away or much lower quality (according to Steve Barile who
has personally been to all of them!). We arent getting any kick backs from
the hotel, I just think it would be a lot of fun to all be in the same place
midnight lobby parties etc

I will be showing my roller coaster one last time at BrickFest PDX this February. If you want to see it in action, come to this
event, because it will be taken apart afterwards (unless someone decides they
want to own it for themselves, of course). See what Todd Lehman has called one
of the 7 wonders of the LEGO world.
The roller coaster is 126 track sections long and carries a 3-car, 12 minifigure
passenger train from the station, up and around to the elevator ramp to the top
(4.5 foot elevation gain). Gravity then takes over for the next 10 seconds or
so as the train goes around a curve, drops 4 feet, goes up through an inverted
loop, around a banked turn, down again and up over a hump, then through a 540
degree spiral and back to the station.
View pictures and video of the first version of the coaster, shown at GATS in
Portland 2 years ago at Matts
Lego Creations. Since then, it has been considerably improved and shown again
at the PNLTC Beaverton Mall show in Beaverton, Oregon a
year and a half ago. At BrickFest PDX, you will see
the latest, greatest and final version.
Hope to see you there!
