I have been swapping some e-mail with one of the folks at LEGO Direct and
they asked me to post the following on their behalf as one of their folks is
having trouble registering with LUGNET.

Hello,
As you all are probably aware of by now, we've had a few problems with our
first assortment of bulk paks - 5 to be exact. The good news is that we are
producing 4 of the 5 bags in the corrected elements as we speak. We are not
going to be able to get the red door with frame, so we will be producing the
same door in all black with transparent light blue window panes. We expect
to have the corrected elements in stock no later than July 14th, hopefully
sooner. Starting Monday, June 26th we will start taking back orders for the
corrected elements - 45 degree steep sloped 2 x 4 ridge roof tiles in red
and black, 1 x 4 x 5 black window frames with clear panes, transparent light
blue wall elements (like ones used on the train in 4561) and the black doors
with transparent light blue window panes.
I just wanted to say thanks for the great response to our first offering of
bulk paks and we appreciate your understanding as we work out the kinks of
our first launch.
Thanks -- Steve

Steve H. accidentally signed up for LUGNET Membership...what he wanted was
actually simply news-posting access. I talked with him on the phone and we
got it straightened out. I don't know if he plans to try posting again in
the future but he mentioned that he was posting "for" or "in the absense of"
(I can't recall the details) Brad J., as Brad was out of town.
If you do happen to see posts in the future from
Steve Hawko <LEGODirect@LEGO.com>
rest assured that Steve is a real person and has been an employee at LEGO
for 14 years.

Ooh, I wish I'd seen this before I just placed an order... I would have
ordered more of the black windows. I'd appreciate it if all the window
glass in these bulk orders was the same color (at least until they get
more colors).

Oops, not _quite_. I spelled his last name wrong. That should say:
Steve Hawco <LEGODirect@LEGO.com>

So... you can attest that Steve is a real person? But not that Brad is? <grin,
duck and run>
Just curious... <devilish grin>

This is a really good idea if you want to take advantage of any of the
mistakes (like clear thin walls). I personally ordered cler thin walls and
black roof peaks when I got this news from LD. I have no idea what I will
do with clear thin walls right now but I think they will end up being useful
for something.
So now there will be a run on the discontinued "mistake" packs which will
sure to be LEGO collectors items ... ;-)

I assume that avoid confusion, the new parts will get new set numbers?
I hope that especially the more useful of the "wrong" elements
will stay in production? (I am referring mainly to the extremely useful,
hoped-for since the demise of large clear bricks 20 years ago, and
appreciated clear_transparent_wall_elements, and also the black low-slope
ridge roof tiles)

Would it be possible to see some sales statistics on these, to
settle the various arguments about just how many customers
would spend how much money on bulk bricks?

So, uh, place another order NOW, before they swap them over ;-)
I got 100 of the 1x4x5s, I think I'll stick with that, and order a ton when they
change to clear.
Can't WAIT for the black-framed doors, but I sure wish they cost a little less -
they are the same doors as in the $11 3438 McDonald's set - pretty lopsided price.

Is there any way to keep the "mistakes" available (with the exception of
the red doors)? Most of us could need the tinted *and* non tinded window
elements as we have discussed here on Lugnet ad infinitum.

Here, here. It does seem to make more sense to offer the windows and doors in
the same color frame with the same color glass. Why not switch the picture for
the black with clear window to a picture of black with blue glass, and add black
with light blue glass doors.
Go figure,
Chris

Or even better--offer the 5 high doors and/or 6 high windows, in the
appropriate colors of course.
