...Further details and pricing information can be found
at http://www.lego.com/bulk.

Initially, this service is available only in the United • States and Canada
through LEGO Shop at Home (1-800-453-4652). This is not • because we wish to
favor this market, but simply because we have an existing fulfillment
operation which we can employ immediately. We are currently • finishing our
development of a new fulfillment center in Europe to handle direct
distribution; it will be ready to go by late summer or early • fall. At that
time, we will begin offering not only bulks but the full • LEGO Shop at Home
service (via the Internet) to at least nine European • countries. We intend to
have full coverage in Europe in 2001.

Given that  LEGO.COM is the host for LD internationally (or
so it appears), it
will be interesting to see what price variations will be
between here, the US
and the rest of Europe. Will the so called "rip-off Britain"
live up to its
name?

And what about places like Australia, where the sets cost considerably more
than the cost of having them sent airmail from the US..or even UK?

I'm personally hoping that LD decide on a global price for the items, and
then add postage to this, so that everyone pays the same price for the
parts, and it's no cheaper for overseas AFOL's to have someone in the US
order the parts/sets, and have them shipped to themselves, and then they
ship them overseas than it is for overseas AFOL's to order them from LD.
Otherwise, the US section will be flooded with overseas orders taken by
americans on behalf of the masses who were being overcharged.

Anyway, just my thoughts..

MY thoughts on the whole thing are that TLG just needed to add extra to cover S&H charges, and make it possible to order via S@H USA, or through their web page, for Australia and countries in a similar fix. How they handle things like import duties, (...) (24 years ago, 15-Jun-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

(...) Is that something LEGO can do something about or are the high prices caused by duties, taxes, etc imposed by your country? If it is a result of the policies of your country what would you have TLC do - make less money on goods sold in (...) (24 years ago, 15-Jun-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)
