Oppps,

My mistake, I should have stated that any set that was produced after 1979 was
given a 4 digit set number.  If a 3 digit number (say castle sets #375 and #383)
was produced in continental Europe or elsewhere, and not introduced to the USA
until after 1979, then a 4 digit set number was issued for the USA (or any
country that had a set introduction after 1979).  And the 3 digit set numbers
continued until the 3 digit sets were discontinued.  That's why some 1980's sets
have the 3 & 4 digit counterparts.

Any set that was first introduced starting in 1980 or later will have the same 4
digit number everywhere.

After 1979 however, Basic Sets still had 3 digit numbers, but the same 3 digit
numbers for all locations.  Basic sets #722, #733 and #744 (introduced in 1979)
are examples that had the same numbers in all countries.

This gets very confusing!

Oh, and one last item..... Did you ever wonder why in the 1970's the Yellow Castle set was numbered #6075 in the USA, and #375 in Canada, continental Europe, Britain and Australia.... Did you ever wonder why the London Bus was #760 in USA and #384 (...) (18 years ago, 10-Apr-06, to lugnet.general)
