Our addiction -- how much Lego is too much?  I probably had about 100 sets when
I was a kid, built up over 4-5 years -- now I have 60,000 pieces.  I feel bad
about this.  I want to buy more Lego, but why?  What's reasonable?  $200 a year?
Is more irresponsible?  There are people living in poverty all over the world --
it's kinda sickening to think I spend more on a toy in a month than some people
spend on food. :(  I'd really like to know what a sane amount of money is - not
based on what we have done as a community in the past - but what is really a
moral amount.  Anyone want to really examine this?  Do we dare?

I look at my spending as a pack and a half of cigarettes a day!  Face it, if
you're working, paying taxes, you deserve something for yourself.  I don't
believe we're all here to just scrape by.  Like the Rush song - ROLL THE BONES!
"Why are we here - because we're here - roll the bones"  I had the opportunity
to put on display in the 32 foot long front window of Zany Brainy a bridge made
of 33,000 pieces of LEGO.  Shortly after putting in the finishing touches, I
walked outside to view it just as a couple were walking by.  One said to the
other while looking at the bridge "must be nice to have no budget" as a
cigarette was thrown to the ground and stamped out.  I replied that what you see
before you is my pack and a half a day.

Someday someone(s) will inherit my pack and a half a day.  A pack and a half
that has reduced stress and has not made it unhealthy for others by way of
second hand.  As mentioned in previous posts there are charities, neighborhood
kids, schools and descendants.

The thrill is gone. There's so much about our hobby that has changed over the last few years and a lot of it has changed for the worse. LUGNET This used to be THE place that the online community got together and talked about the hobby. Now, it has a (...) (18 years ago, 7-Dec-05, to lugnet.general)
