Hey all, After another major re-sort of my collection, I decided to separate all the 1x2 grille tiles without the fingernail groove out of my big bag of the grooved kind since it's kinda hard to tell 'em apart while digging. I was surprised to find (...) (19 years ago, 27-May-05, to lugnet.general)

According to peeron (not definitive, but certainly a good indicator) there's a fairly neat split around the end of 1994 - (URL) those without grooves> do not appear in any sets after 94, and (URL) those with grooves> don't appear in any sets (...) (...) When I came across some sets that had never been "cross-contaminated" by other sets I went ahead and took some notes. You can add them to the rest of the observations you get: (URL) it seemed that in 1991 they had introduced the grooved tiles (...) (19 years ago, 27-May-05, to lugnet.general)

(...) Hi Dave, looks like others beat me to the punch.... But speaking of grooves, Lego tiles, which first came into production in late 1965, came without grooves in the tile parts packs #510 (1965), and #471 (1966-68). Trying to date a specific (...) (19 years ago, 27-May-05, to lugnet.general)

(...) "Cross Contamination" continued as late as 1997. I have some copies of 5561 Big Foot 4x4 that had non-grooved grilles as well as at least one Divers set, which I think is the Diving Expedition Explorer. I vaguely remember seeing it in another (...) (19 years ago, 27-May-05, to lugnet.general)
