At BF PDX 2004, as wwe all know, there was the timed build to get the Imperial
Star Destroyer built faster than the previous time (1:13:

The Team:

Holger Mathes
Christopher Schermann
Bob Kojima
Thomas Garrison
Nik Pieniazek
Ben Schwartz
Scott Lyttle
Gary McIntyre
Rick Clark
Dan Sabath
(forgive me if any names are misspelled..)

The time: 11 AM PST February 14th, 2004.

After a little bit of a rough start, the build went fast, had a moment or two
for the builders to take a mental breather after about the 40 minute mark, and
as the ISD started to take shape..a large number of pieces were left over when a
revelation was discovered--a section of the tower had been missed!

With Holger at the instructions, with other builders pitching in sub assemblies,
the section went together in about 2-3 minutes.  Rushing all the parts to the
currently built portions of the ISD, the team got the ISD assembled in...

1 Hour, 9 Minutes and 22 seconds  (1:09:22)

The new record has been achieved!!

With some rumors around that this might be the last ISD timed build, Geoff Gray
pointed out that it is fitting that this team was made up of builders in North
America and Europe.

What to do with the ISD?  Well, the team decided that since the build was a
group project, the ISD should be divided up amongst the team.  However, as this
might be the last ISD build, an idea to send out the ISD with a spectacular
event was cooked up (we're not sure where or how it happened, but I think an
after-fest party where alcohol was involved might have played a part).

The event? The "ISD Drop"...yes, the team decided to see if the ISD could
actually fly.  As the team brought the ISD from its table, a resounding acapella
chant of the Star Wars "Imperial Theme" from a vast majority of the Brickfest
attendees could be heard.  From a height of roughly 15 feet, the Star Destroyer
was pitched for a spectactular scene of Lego destruction!!!

Hopefully, in the next few days or so, those who helped by taking pictures and
video of the event can post links to those pictures.  I've seen a few pictures,
and some of them are quite a sight!!!

Amazingly enough, no Lego parts were harmed in the ISD toss.

(...) Looks like Thomas Garrison was part of the fastest ISD build ever. Cool! (20 years ago, 17-Feb-04, to lugnet.org.us.indylug, FTX)

(...) Congratulations on a great build! (...) Here are mine... (URL) Unless you were one of the builders, you'll probably find these photos extremely boring. I took an excessive number of shots while experimenting with different shutter speeds, (...) (20 years ago, 17-Feb-04, to lugnet.events.brickfest, lugnet.space, lugnet.starwars)
