BUT ... like most people that tried taking pictures of black models - it
isn't pretty.  (Tips on this from anyone by the way?).  I would have to try
something different.  That's where the the idea for a red fortress hit me.
A combination of red and black works very well IMHO (although Craig is
probably the person to ask about that;).  As does blue and black, and I do
plan on making something yellow and black down the road.

So here a little result of what this will be (a small fortress that will be
joined to a mountain on one side:

The second point are the castle walls.  I think that when used spaced out
they can be pretty effective to conserve bricks.  I am not sure how well gray
with gray looks, but red and black looks a little weird at first.  After I
slept on it it didn't look half bad though.

Excellent effort Pawel,
Who said all castles had to be grey(gray). This is the world of Lego after all
where primary colour towns are standard. The key is to always use combinations
of colours and in appropriate proportions to highlight certain features. About
the only combo I'd rule it so far is an ICE PLANET 2002 castle.

more colours in more volumes NOW ...(please :>0  )

Was that rule out?

Hmm... Too bad there isn't enough trans-orange which would work in a castle
(though the towers could have trans-orange octagonal dome roofs). Of course
now that we have solid orange, that could be mixed in with the
trans-orange(too bad I was on the scene a few months too late to get the
Haloween buckets), at least there is a lot of new orange bits coming out in
Star Wars and Arctic.

What could be made out of orange elements though?  Nothing on a large scale,
so thinking small scale ... What stucture would look good done in orange?
Nothing
comes to mind right away, and seeing as I'm a Vol I should be biased.  (we
were robbed by UNC ... ugh ... )

For me, building in orange would be very frustrating because I would feel
limited.  But having a touch of orange in a green structure would look
half-way decent INHO
...

What about an insectoid sub-sub-theme called the fruit-flyoids who inhabit
orchards in their small orange castles ... or Arctic castles ? those polar
bears can get a bit frisky and you don't want to get too physical with
them, though my 2 year old's Duplo polar bear looks rather benign.
