Hello all,
I will be helping in organizing the castle room this at BF 04, and I hope to
help make it the most memorable and successful Castle Room so far. Ive
already been brainstorming with some other sturdy fellows well known in the
AFOL Castlehead community about what we would like to do, and at this point we
have some very cool ideas, but little is set in stone. Um, or brick for that
matter.
I dont want to spill the beans on everything we have planned, because we may
not be able to do everything we are thinking of now, and a bit of seeing when
you get there will surely be a good thing. I can say however that a CCC
(Classic cCastle City) display IS of course being planned, and Im very
excited about how this will pan out. Anybody not familar with this modular
castle building system can check out the website at: www.classic-castle.com
Im also aware that many people may be building Castle/fantasy/medieval etc
related MOCs independent of the CCC system (including me incidently) and these
will also be welcomed and encouraged. Register for Brickfest and fill out
those MOC cards as soon as you know what sort of things you will be bringing-
it helps us a whole lot with planning space considerations etc - No not THAT
kind of space j/k :).
Brickfest is three months away, which seems like a while, but in terms of
actually organizing everything it isnt that much time. What Id like to know
at this stage is a couple of things:
Who is coming this year, and if so, what sort of MOCs are you hoping/planning
on bringing to the Castle Room? Themes such as ancient history and fantasy
will probably also end up in the castle room, so do let us know!
Whether you are coming this year or not, who has been to BF in the past, and
what did you like about the Castle room, and what would you have liked to see
more or less of?
Can I get a rough head count (not binding of course), as to how many souls
might be interested in taking part in some sort of medieval related wargaming
- probably not Brickwars I might add. If there is significant interest, Im
thinking about organizing something which can be played at a pretty quick
pace, and which does not demand that players set aside whole hours at a time
to participate. No firm plans yet, but the more interest I get, the firmer my
plans may become.
And more ideas for cool things to do are always welcome of course.
Thats all for now. Im looking forward to meeting as many of you guys as can
make it.
cheers
Magnus

I will be bringing two large CCC structures (large for me anyway - 50 studs long
or so), and several smaller CCC structures like
these. I will contribute at least
one CCC wall module as well. I probably wont be doing any gaming.
For the CCC display, I think it would be neat to have a way to identify who made
what. You could assign different colors and combinations of flags to
contributors to attach to their buildings - Toms buildings have blue over
yellow flags, Dick is green/white, Harry is black/white/red, etc.

Hey Marc, Im glad to hear that you are bringing stuff for the 3CS display! Im
very excited about how it will look!
As it looks now, a few people will be bringing quite a few 3CS houses, etc. My
idea is to have neighbor hoods, where all of Jason Spearss stuff would be in
one section, My stuff in another, Lars in another, etc. OF course that depends
on having enough wall sections to break the town up like that, etc.
But flags are definately a good idea, especially for people who only bring a few
mocs. The main issue I see is properly defining who gets what flag. We could
be looking at something like twenty different people, figuring flab situation
could take a while and possibly be very complicated.

You mentioned the
neighborhoods on CC, but I dont think I got it before. With wall sections
cutting up the areas, I think this could look really neat. That will make it
really easy to figure out whos minifigs, buildings, roads, etc is whos.
Although at least for Lars and my mocs(1), I doubt there would be any issue as
to whos creations are whos. They have been in the same display before and all
mixed up without any confusion at the end of the show.

Well, someone could work up a variety of combinations, make up a chart, and
people who were planning to bring buildings could email the coordinator and then
could be assigned a color combo for the flags.

(1) Actually, Im hoping to bring Ken Koledas
houses as well, so that
would be another 12. Hmm... gotta ask him about that.

To the Castle room organizers:
I am willing to take on the project of distributing and recording designation
flags if thats what you guys decide to do.
I could put up a quick LUGNET page listing the different flag combinations and
take requests from CCC contributors, constantly updating the roster. Then during
the actual display, a big printed roster could be displayed in the Castle room
for easy attribution of MOCs.
Going by Bricklink, the 4x1
flag comes in nine colors (not counting new gray), which makes for 81 two-flag
combinations if you allow doubles (blue/blue, red/red), or 72 if you dont. Math
isnt my thing, so I could be wrong. Allowing three flags makes for, ummm... a
lot of combinations.
I think it would be best to limit the choice of flags to at least 2-flag
combinations, reserving single-flag designations for late-comers who hadnt
already picked a combination (it would be easier to supply them with just one
flag).
Anyway, let me know if this is what you want to do, and Ill put up a page and
start taking requests.

They could just be broken up by streets. See the pictures of the last 2 MichLUG
CCC displays, there are a lot of streets that divide things into blocks. That
might work.
