Emtech Enterprises proudly announces the z24 Minifig version of the PlatforMech ABD-I class Razor.

The Mech

  • 120 Total Missiles – BRING IT ON!
              48 Long Range Warheads
              48 Short Range Warheads
              24 Fireball Warheads
  • Dual 4 Barrel Gatling Guns
  • Dual Ammo Dumps each holding 2000 rounds
  • Dual Specter Laser Cannons
              Quadruple Laser Energizers
  • 2 Leg Mounted Rear-Facing Flak Cannons
  • Cold Fusion Engine Supply (from CSF)
  • Enhanced Optical Cockpit LCD
  • 2 Dynamic Neumannic Shocks
  • Organic Design (the Tails) Inspired by Eric’s Beaechi (I think that is spelled right?)
Facts

  • Approximately 17” inches tall and 7” inches wide.
  • 12 Worm gears
  • 4 Goodyear Tires :)
Funny Costs

  • $5 in 32199 Yellow Hose, Soft Axle 11 (Peeron)
  • $1 in 75c10 Yellow Hose, Rigid 3mm D. 10L (Peeron)
Funny Facts

Razor is surprisingly playable! If, the temperature is 78°F, humidity 10% and you are in separate rooms and don’t breathe. Z24 gears allow for too much movement to be stable.

Torque

Let’s talk about torque. Those parts are connected via an axle to the hips. It should only be offset by 90 degrees.

This shows how much play is in the z24 gears. When I took off the arms and missiles this is the angle at which Razor wanted to stand.

Thanks

Thanks to every one that has given me input on my other Mechs. I especially want to thank Mark Neumann for the behind the scenes help. Mark suggested I think that a Mech is “A platform with legs”. A thanks goes to Eric Sophie for sparking my curiosity in Mech building.

Please note: This is my first, z24 Mech. I am looking for as much constructive criticism as possible. All suggestions and upgrades will be featured in the z40 model (Have any missiles you want to share?).

Thank you,

Brian PLMKWYT

P.s. If I have missed anyone on the credits please let me know.

This is cool Brian.

The missle racks balance out the body and help “round” out the form. Though the spines alone do give Razor a nice brutal feel. Cool

Yellow on black. Nicely done. Lots of spines and twisty bits applied to break up the straight lines of the form. Also cool. Playing with quality of arraingment and overall theme, will help in cohesiveness of the model. This looks just a little chaotic with everything going every which way. Doesn’t look like there’s much ryme or reason to it.

I thought the engine pull out and detail was a neat touch. Not only can you see it, but can remove it and service it. Great potential for another mech bay kind of scene.

The weapons are crazy overdone. Cooooool. It makes for some fun playtime. The arm weapons I thought could be sleekened up a little bit. they seem, tacked on? Might just be the pics. I’m learning that real life is always better.

Love that torque shot of the hip. Yikes, it is amazing what a techinic axle will take isn’t it? For additional strength, (adds size though) is to gear down the joint. Run a z8 to a z40 for example. The nature of the gear down will cut down on that torqing of the axle. But again, it takes up space. Also, as you get bigger, I think you’ll find that turntables become your friend in crucial articulation points such as the hip.

Wow, build on man.

Mark

Thank you, Master! I do appreciate all the help you have given me.

Yeah, towards the end, I was pulling out yellow greebling and asking, “How can I use this!” The nature of a z24 Mech of this size is more about weight than anything else, IMO. What pieces look good but aren’t too heavy.

I thought the engine pull out and detail was a neat touch. Not only can you see it, but can remove it and service it. Great potential for another mech bay kind of scene.

Thanks. In reality, I had a space between the hips and the shoulders and needed a light weight filler. The engine fit great. I really liked the magnetic touch. Easy Removal.

I am in the planning stages of a Sophie-style Mech Bay.

You can say, “Tacked on” again. I really liked using that technic liftarm but connecting the weapons was hard. I had to just use a technic pin. That gives them the “gravity-pulled down look”. They are connected to a worm gear and can pivot.

Love that torque shot of the hip. Yikes, it is amazing what a techinic axle will take isn’t it?

Yes, YEs , YES!!!! I was waiting at any second for a snap, break, pow! I near leave Razor assemble, too chancy.

For additional strength, (adds size though) is to gear down the joint. Run a z8 to a z40 for example. The nature of the gear down will cut down on that torqing of the axle. But again, it takes up space.

Is this what you went by the gear sequence on a gear down?

Also, as you get bigger, I think you’ll find that turntables become your friend in crucial articulation points such as the hip.

I know. Building a mech with ball joints, then z24 gears then z40 gears is like taking algebra before calculas. It is just something you need to do. Then once you get to calculas you ask, “Why did I have to take algebra, calculas is so much easier.” Same with z40, there are just parts that make life better. Can’t wait to use them.

Wow, build on man.

Mark

Thanks again.

Yep, that is exactly it. You can use whatever combination of gears you need (have a available) but this is the concept. Thanks for putting up the pic. We’ll be needing to point people at that.

I’d love to post some more links and cues to using this kind of system. See if we can com up with some new kinds of ways to use the tech, as you did. Hey even Mark pointed out clever, yet only slightly deceiving technique of using those 87 left monkey arms in the ankles. Pretty cool, thanks for sharring!

Ya, anybody have any 760 right side only monkey arms? Let me know.

Hello Brian,

pardon me for being late. I was not at home for a week. But now I saw what you did! Great, nothing more. When I read you wanted to build a z24-Version of your first post I was curious. And now I’m blown away...

Looks really great. I think it could have a bit more covering around the legs, but it’s not really a necessity.

Thanks again. I love weapons. The more the better. I think we will find as we build better gears for hips and knees our Mech will be able to hold more weapons. I think, I maxed out the amount of weight this mech can hold.

I am still trying to get accustomed to this armor stuff. Like you mentioned about your lack of weapons, I have a lack for armor. I like my Mech sleek right now.

I appreciate all the feedback. Thanks Marco.
