it seems greece is not as recognizable as i thought, or perhaps i’ve been to my local greek restaurant more often than i should. the walls are plastered with prints of “traditional” greek architecture, most of which appear to be santorini - blue domes, round white buildings, bell towers and stairways of dizzying heights. few in my lug recognized my first attempt at micro. what does this say? terrible builder of micro or she doesn’t cook and eats at greek restaurants a lot?

i believed it to be a relatively simple project considering the domes, arches and curved pieces available, but recreating the steep, winding stairs was not satisfactory since surrounding the jumper plate steps was next to impossible if they did not sit at right angles. also frustrating was trying to recreate a suitable cross for the church dome. scale would not allow me to use most pieces, so i did without. the most fun was finishing it off with the fishing boat. true to my mocs, there are no people around. everyone is in church.

enjoy santorini.

I love it! Having been to Thera (now the modern island Santorini), I have to say that your model really has the right look. Nicely captured with the blue tile roofs and white domes. But you could have made the cliff a little higher. Perhaps 20 or 30 bricks at least :) The ride up the switch-backs in a rickety old bus with no guard rails was one of the scariest things I’ve ever experienced.

Great model. Micro is just so much fun, isn’t it.

glad you enjoyed it. i’ve not yet been to greece, but i would imagine it to be a hair-raising experience to manoeuver through these hairpin bends! a higher cliff would have been nice, but i’ve heard i have a problem with size and manageable mocs, so i tried to keep it more compact. i would have created a much bigger footprint, but i forced myself to cut it back. i’ve been told it’s supposed to be *micro* which i know doesn’t necessarily mean small, but ... and yes it’s great fun.

Hi Deborah that is a sweet micro. And that fishing boat is seriously cute! What part is that you used for the flotation ring? Is it Clikits or something?

Well done Deborah! I still think my favourite part is the boat. Throw a little SNOT into a MOC and it gets me all excited. I especially like the Clickits stud joiner as life preserver. You know how much I love Clickits. ;)

well, thank you. kind words from the new master of micro. must admit that boat added the eureka factor we’ve talked about. please post about your micro farm. it must be seen by one and all.

Hi Deborah,

This microscale town is beautiful. It really makes me want to visit the original. Probably my favorite individual detail is the little gate you made with grill pieces, but the color scheme and the overall shape is wonderful.

thank you very much. i too would love to visit the original. it looks like a haven of peace and tranquility but i’m sure it’s been overrun with tourists. the gate piece was thrilling to use, because i actually had them in blue! not many but a few, just enough, i think to replicate the ones i’d seen in the travel photos. glad you liked the moc.
