i too was fortunate to experience my first lego/train show at railfair 27 held
in ottawa this past weekend - an experience that needs to be repeated more than
once a year. the group worked well together, orchestrating the layout with
smooth precision, especially with janeys detailed amusement park, the trains
running on time, the cows(which have to be seen to be herd) & the squished
brownies. what a way to show your appreciation for home baking!
building for the show was a great experience. especially fun was refitting my
warehouse loft
conversion to fit into the layout as a downtown furniture store.
no large canadian town is without the brique - quality furniture since the
dawn of lego.
the lower floor features living, dining, family room furnishings & kitchen sets.
the owners of the warehouse loft obviously shopped here.
the upper floor features bedroom furniture for all tastes & ages.
kids will enjoy the simple lines of the medium blue set or the fun & fantasy of
the jungle-themed room
with crocodile toy box & seating bench. adults will enjoy the appeal of the
sleek design of the dark red
canopy bed or the
storage provided by the armoire in the danish inspired bedroom. people with
more questionable taste will want to be inspired by the
round bed that harkens
back to their honeymoon days in niagara falls. theres something for everyone.
enjoy

Wow, Im speechless! I wish you had posted these earlier - I have a bunch of
non-AFOL furniture designers in my CAD class who were looking for something to
draw for my LEGO assignment.. They ended up drawing cars and planes just because
there werent many furniture-like models to choose from in official LEGO sets.
God forbid they might design something of their own (sorry, pet peeve)!
Do you mind if I use your MOCs as reference for future classes?
Darrell
ps Personal fave is the jungle room alligator box. Brilliant!

please, go ahead! there are other rooms of furniture in my other mocs, found on
my brickshelf pages. its one of my favourite parts of the hobby. other kids
bedrooms & a murphy bed wall unit are in this
folder, smaller pieces
such as coffee tables & a home theatre are
here.
glad to help the education system.

Ouch on the pun, and kudos on the furniture!!!
I know for a fact there are some ideas I will be stealing.... umm borrowing in
some of my future interiors. You have a way with pieces Deborah.
BUT can we talk a minute about SCALE.... go big or stay home maybe can be the
name of OUR section of the layout when the SMACK talkers kick us out!!! It
was a pleasure meeting you and a thrill seeing your architecture and interior
details up close. I have always enjoyed your work, and I am looking forward to
your next MOC.

right back at you! it was great to have another ally in the fight for scale &
the need for a bigger town section - not to say that trains dont have their
rightful place in a train show (actually, ill have to admit the trains were
cool.)
the mutual admiration society continues. your work was awesome & really made
the show. the looks on the kids faces say it all. thats what lego is all
about. ill be looking for more news on brickton & hope that youll make it
here sooner than the next railfair.

Hmm... Pun? I guess I missed it.. Or is this another Canadian thing? :)
The Dining Set reminds me of IKEA (Swedish warehousy-type furniture stores here
in the US). I love IKEA, but not necessarily for the furniture - I love the
goofy names everything has (Ill take the oak BUMBOOLSVEE with a pair of side
OOMLORTS please). Oh yeah, and I can eat the meatballs all day!
Darrell
ps: I just found your
recliners.. Great use of Racers winged parts to get those curves! May I ask -
did you design the shape of your furniture first and THEN search for parts to
create those shapes, or did you look at the parts and think, What can I make
with this or This looks like a cushion, etc.?

here in canada, there is a furniture chain called the brick. ottawa is a
quasi-bilingual city. as you might have guessed, in french, brique also means
brick. the pun she may also have been referring to was the herd of cows -
pictures yet to be posted.

we also have ikea, hence the swedish/danish looking furniture. they also have a
great almond/marzipan cake.

i could never be that organized - design first then buy? mostly i look at a
piece & come up with ideas. occasionally im presented with a challenge when a
piece comes up in a draft - technic, whats that good for? - & then im driven
to find a good use for it. hence the side/headboard on the
childs bed.
hope this inspires your students to think outside the brick, er, box.

WOW. the building & interior layout has the modern spacious retail feel to it
& the furniture is astounding! entire themed sets thought through very well in
overall form & color & in specific piece usage: inverted 1x1 cones as furniture
legs 2x2 racer slopes as chair backs-WOW. im gonna have to look a lot more to
take in the building goodness.

Hi Deborah-
great stuff! I love all the different types and styles of furniture....a great
refit of the warehouse loft, which was also fantastic. I wish I could have seen
this in person. Your furniture ideas are always so inventive. I have enjoyed all
your mocs, and I always learn something from looking at them. I really like the
use of technic pieces on the childs bed, and the racer chairs. And the blue and
white cabinet downstairs. Looking forward to your next creation :) Cyndi

(Theres a small group of furniture/detail design links near the bottom of
the sidebar)

not at all, it would be an honour. there are other furniture pieces in my
brickshelf folders, spread about in
bedroom,
dining room,
living room,
computer room &
kitchen.

If anyone else has groups of furniture designs that they would like me to
add to this list, either DAT files or photos of models in the brick,
please let me know.
