Two new flower mosaics....
Well, okay, the ParLUGment one isnt really new since its been built for a few
months and was actually on display at Brickfest. Im a little behind in taking
pictures. :)
The LEGO logo seemed like an obvious good candidate for a mosaic of this type.
The only problem of course was that LEGO doesnt make black flowers. Go figure.
Using blue flowers seemed like a reasonable compromise on the ParLUGment mosaic,
but that just wasnt going to cut it for the LEGO one. I finally bit the bullet
and, with the advice of ParLUGments resident painting expert, dove into the
task of painting 180ish blue flowers black. I think they turned out pretty
well, but it certainly wasnt very much fun.
Someday, probably when Ive forgotten what a pain it is to paint flowers, Id
like to retrofit black ones into the ParLUGment mosaic as well.
Enjoy,
J

It was a pleasure to be able to see these up close, outstanding work Jason. The
flower beds looked amazing in the town/train display. I was surprised how each
flower sort of locks in the other holding them in place because I have always
had issues with the flowers falling over in my displays.

These look really spiffy, even if the painting bit does make me cringe. :-)
Spotlighted.
XFUT to lugnet.parts.mod because painting is a kind of mod, isnt it?
So what kind of paint did you use, and did you have any adhesion problems?

Thanks Janey,
Yeah, they hold together pretty well. The ones along the edges and especially
in the corners are less stable and will occasionally fall off in transit, but
they are no where near as unstable as flower stems on their own.

yes, these were a very colourful addition to the layout. not as colourful as
they would be if someone (no names) would paint some mauve & peach coloured
flowers for the rest of his group, but awesome just the same. the big question
is, will we see the photo of the lawncare specialist who got a bit too zealous
or had a rough night?

Thanks Larry,
This is the first real mod (if indeed painting is considered a mod) that Ive
ever done. I approached it with a bit of trepidation but I deemed it was
necessary.
As for the details, here they are....
They were painted by brush using acrylic paint - Games Workshop brand Chaos Black to be exact.
The adhesion seems pretty good. I cleaned the flowers beforehand to get rid of
any dust/dirt/grime. Where I occasionally globbed paint near the edge of a
flower it seemed more susceptible to peeling off, but thats to be expected.
Im sure the flowers would show a little wear with repeated handling. I try to
be as careful as possible when moving the LEGO mosaic around.
Full props go to Norbert, without whom I would have been completely lost in this
task.

lol, I think youre more likely to get peach and mauve coloured flowers from
LEGO than you are from me.
I think the lawnmower man was displaying his lack of patriotism when Tim was
taking pictures so Im sure theyll show up.
Thanks Deborah!

FYI, you can re-generate the thumbnails in a folder by clicking "Rescan" when
viewing the folder. You must be logged in.
