I'd be happy to change LDconfig in the next update.  My personal LDConfig_alt
already has Dark_Tan corrected (though it might need more red):

I also noticed that you used much different edge colors than the basic file.
You used unique edge colors instead of #333333 for everything.

Yeah, I use this LDConfig_alt for working in MLCAD.  It makes it look a lot more
fun / realistic than black edge lines.  Its not good for making instructions,
but I get an almost rendered look in MLCAD without having to run a separate
rendering program.

Let me know if there are any other colors that need adjustment.

Thanks,

I have been digging around online Pick-a-brick to find out the various elements
I would need to get the basic stuff to get a train going (wheels, axles, plates,
buffers, etc). Besides finding the right elements (I am using the parts list
from the latest Cargo Train instruction booklet), I am finding that it is adding
up to quite a packet.

Would it not make sense for TLG to release a poly bag of these elements? I am
going to guess it is a pipe dream - not gonna happen. Perhaps TLG will release
el-cheapo cars for building bigger trains?

What do other do? Buy entire sets for the parts? I did notice that there are
folks who use regular bricks to fill in where ever possible.

I hardly ever use any of the special train elements.  Other than track, the new
large wheels, and the old style couplers (with removable magnets), it has been a
couple of years since I used a special train piece.  I use
http://www.bigbenbricks.com wheels otherwise, cause they tend to stay on the
axle better than LEGO wheels.  None of my designs use the train base plate.  I
usually use Technic plates or other Technic pieces.

I'm assuming that you know about http://www.bricklink.com for purchasing
individual parts.

I’ve been working on this for more than a year now. Powered through the articulated drivers with 4 XL Power Functions motors. It is capable of pulling all of the cars shown, which is quite a feet even to pull them by hand.

Things to note:
4 XL motors!!!
15 feet long
Articulated and fully l-guage trackable
New Cow Catcher design
Romovable Roof with air duct hatch
Room for four inside cab
Curved Firebox
Tender has quick battery access and semi-quick motor disconnect

List of cheats / non-LEGO usage:
BBB wheels on leading and trailing trucks
Brick Arms Mono-Pods and U-Clips
Coat Hangers inside tubing to maintain shape
Spacers / Washers to help the crown gears not strip out

No LEGO was cut, glued, or painted to make this model (unless you count tubing).

Thanks for looking,

I will be presenting an Introduction to LDraw presentation at BrickWorld this
June and would like to include this picture:

Does anyone know who it belongs to, so I can get his / her permission to use it?

Thanks much,
Scott

My third recommendation...

Utility Workers / Vehicles

Every town has needs that have to be taken care of like plowing the snow,
servicing power poles, and emptying garbage dumpsters.  Some modern looking 6
wide vehicles for a theme of utility workers would make a good addition to the
existing police, fire, and rescue themes.

1) Snow Plow - $10 to $20 price range - truck with single utility worker,
adjustable plow or snow blower, dump bed for collecting 'snow', and some 'snow'
to push around

2) Garbage Truck & Dumpster - $20 to $30 price range - industrial garbage truck
two utility workers, dumpster with 'garbage', and movable front forks to lift
and empty the dumpster

3) Bucket Truck & Power Station - $30 to $40 price range - bucket truck with two
utility workers (recommend one female), road plate, power poles with power
lines, and small power station

Thanks,
Scott
