I noticed this as well, I’m guessing the old moters were used for testing and
early photos, but the final product will have plastic wheels. I’m really hoping
that the IR reciever is not permanently coupled the the motor unit. Use a
standard 9v train motor, and save the IR outputs for decouplers, lights and
sound control.
I’m also interested in the track, the parts do appear to be nearly identical to
the 9v track, other then the missing slots to crimp the metal on, and of course
the er um color. I’d really hoped LEGO would have adopted the modified style
turnouts. I’m also interested to see if LEGO produces and crossings, or
continues to push the 9v version towards plastic track users.
