There's a few possibilities for what the stud is:
- glued on, there were some minifigs designed to snap onto a shirt (like
a 3-D emblem on a polo shirt...) which had a plastic piece with a stud
glued to the back. This would be a bummer. I also don't think this is
what the piece is, it looks like it extends to the minifigs neck.
- there was a space "bib" with a stud on the back, but it had some
decoration, I don't think this is what the piece is
- a new piece, a "bib" with a stud on the back. This of course would be
ideal, especially if it is not double sided like the classic castle
armor, but just fits on one side (note it would be useful for attaching
things to the front of a minifig also).
