Re: here comes the next wave of 2001 sets...

I think Lego will slowly raise the size of adult minifigures, so by the time Harry Potter comes out, they'll have the normal minifigs to use as children. I Pray not. NICK #(:^\ In 20 years, our decendants will ask "Why do those kids have beards?". (...) (25 years ago, 7-Nov-00, to lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.general)

Re: A good use for 2001 Alpha Team

(...) It reminded me of kind of a James Bond or Mission Impossible type theme, but what you pointed out is also true. (...) As if we din't have enough licensing from Lego. :D (...) That we be pretty cool, with all his many gadgets and everything. (...) (25 years ago, 7-Nov-00, to lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.general, lugnet.town)

Re: here comes the next wave of 2001 sets...

Hello, all of our LEGO fans! Although you have found out some interested sets in LEGO year 2001 catalogue, it has brought for us a message! Did you find out the minifigure in theme Creator? Lifestyle is replaced of Creator! I think it is a big (...) (25 years ago, 7-Nov-00, to lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.general)

Re: Color name for Statue of Liberty Sculpture #3450

(...) You have quoted the OED several times in this thread. Do you have a copy, work at a library with a copy, or (hopefully) have access to it online and can share the address? FU to off-topic.geek (though not techno geek, etymological geek) BEN (...) (25 years ago, 6-Nov-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.year.2001)

Re: Color name for Statue of Liberty Sculpture #3450

(...) [snip] (...) #1 is also related to the color. (Ok, I've said enough on this. I'll shut up now. *grin*) (...) Calling it grey-green seems like calling pink grey-red. :) (25 years ago, 6-Nov-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.year.2001)

Re: here comes the next wave of 2001 sets...

(...) You're assuming 'they' are going to act like a single-minded organism, with a single vision and plan. LEGO Direct would be very interested in supplying train parts *right now*, to respond to explicit demand for the parts. That does not equate (...)   Re: Color name for Statue of Liberty Sculpture #3450

(...) I looked up the definitions. To paraphrase, "the color of patina is verdigris". Patina is a surface film. Verdigris is a color. Both are primarily associated with rusted copper, but Patina has broader usage, not related to color or metal. (...) (25 years ago, 6-Nov-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.year.2001)

Re: A good use for 2001 Alpha Team

(...) I couldn't help thinking that with the little water inlet on the new Alpha Team baseplate that it would make a great Pirate/Imperial base. (URL) God, please make LEGO bring back Pirates next year. Thanks in advance... SteveC (25 years ago, 6-Nov-00, to lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.general, lugnet.pirates)

Re: Color name for Statue of Liberty Sculpture #3450

(...) Right -- patina is the filmy layer, whereas verdigris is its color. (25 years ago, 6-Nov-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.year.2001)

Re: Color name for Statue of Liberty Sculpture #3450

(...) But this Grece story is debatable, despite being reported in common dictionaries. (25 years ago, 6-Nov-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.year.2001)

Re: Color name for Statue of Liberty Sculpture #3450

(...) In the circles I frequent, 'patina' is always qualified with a color name, like red patina, green patina, brown patina. Not that Lego is going to come out with all those nice colors. -Erik (25 years ago, 6-Nov-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.year.2001)

Re: Color name for Statue of Liberty Sculpture #3450

(...) As an aside, Sunday morning on NPR's Weekend Edition a story mentioned 'verdigris' and 'patina' (and i thing 'aged copper') in the same sentance. Isn't it odd how once you hear or see a word it shows up 'everywhere'? Or maybe I'm just paying (...) (25 years ago, 6-Nov-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.year.2001)

Re: here comes the next wave of 2001 sets...

(...) How do we know this? (25 years ago, 6-Nov-00, to lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.general)

Re: Color name for Statue of Liberty Sculpture #3450

(...) *shrug* I don't see any grey in it at all. Plus, verdi means green -- verdigris literally comes from the phrase "green of Greece". (And both dictionaries I looked in said so.) (25 years ago, 6-Nov-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.year.2001)

Re: Color name for Statue of Liberty Sculpture #3450

(...) If they don't get an accurate picture from the dictionary, that's the dictionary's fault. Verdigris isn't actually a hugely variable shade -- it's just that colors are hard to describe/define in words. Luckily, the definitions in the (...)
