The first stop on the LEGO Make and Create Roadshow happened this past weekend
in Dallas, TX. TexLUG and MSLTC participated and put on a great display. The
show seemed a great success. All participants from the clubs had great time and
enjoyed the interaction with the public.

Matt Greene, from MSLTC, provided 6 tables (total area: 80" x 90") for the train
layout, as well as about 3/4 of the contents on the layout (buildings, etc.).
TexLUG filled up the rest. TexLUG also covered both large MOC display tables
(provided by LEGO). As you can imagine, this all did not fit under the tent :-)

TexLUG showed off a great range of MOCs, anywhere from dragons to a crawler
crane. Both kids and parents alike were excited and watched with amazement and
awe.

Jake McKee said he was quite pleased with the turnout and how things went. I
believe the crowd estimate for the 3-day event was somewhere around 4000-5000,
but I will leave the official commenting to Jake.

The kids were given several objectives at the event, one of which was to check
out our tent. They received a sticker upon completion. We tried to make it
interesting for them, and played a game of "eye-spy". We had them point out
several things on the layout, including the Spiderman minifig. It was a big hit.

The event went pretty well for us, with only minor hiccups. TexLUG endured minor
theft (at the hotel- not at the event) and a few crane mishaps. It took us most
of Friday to iron out the bugs and get a well-working display. The trick was to
create proper barriers for crowd control, and to have the display "staffed" with
enough people in the right places.

There will be many pictures to come, but for now, check out Anthony Sava's:

I know there is a lot I'm leaving out, so if Matt or any TexLUG'ers wish to
comment, please do so.

thanks,
TJ Avery

Sounds like it was fun. The tan/blue, red/white, red/grey and the spanish-style building are nice. These are neat. What are they? (URL) did the bricks fare under the sun? If they can survive in Tejas, anywhere else is gonna be a piece of cake. (...) (21 years ago, 30-Jun-03, to lugnet.events)
