The two mall shows we (NCLTC) have done have both been sponsored by Tom's
Train Station, a serious model railroading store in the mall. Tom Staley
really looked out for us and our layout and help facilitate some of our
interaction with mall management.
Do a mall gig is a lot of fun. Having the layout set up for weeks is fun
because you actually get to enjoy it, tweak it, etc. A typical train show
is over so quickly that you really don't get to enjoy the whole layout
coming together.
It is unlikely we will be back at South Hills Mall in Raleigh again for
Christmas 2004. The mall is being renovated and the space we have set up
our layout is going away. With the changes to the mall, most stores are no
longer open as late as the mall is so it has also created more of a security
risk. While we didn't lose anything this year, we had more problems than we
had a year ago and we aren't as comfortable leaving the display running as
we once were.
I guess we too need to go shopping for a new mall!
