So, I would urge LTCs and their Webmasters to consider documenting how the
clubs work, and what standards they employ. This information would be
useful for prospective members, existing members, people who want to run
guest trains, and people starting LTCs who want to know what works and
what doesnt. This might even be good data for ILTCO to link to
specifically, so people can compare and constrast how different clubs do
things.
Some stuff that I think about when contemplating LTCs:
- Organization: club structure; officers; meetings; member duties and
- Operation: layout structure as (a) table modularity, (b) baseplate
- Table Specs
- Operating Specs: track clearances, maxiumum car size, maximum car
- Aesthetic Specs: minimum car size, automobile size, road design,
1 I assume everyone is familiar with these three types of layout
organization?

Well, fyi, the GMLTC doesnt really follow any of these types of layout
organization. We would be something more like layout modularity, since our
layout is designed so that structure, themes, look & feel - all flow from one
module onto the next. It would be extremely difficult to fit someone elses
module into our layout display.
But then again, were freaks.
As for Guest Trains, bring em!! We *love* guest trains, and will happily
pull one of our trains off the track to run yours. If its too large, well,
Sorry! We still want to see it, even if it wont run on the layout. And since
were an 8-wide club who build some pretty big things -
big things pretty - Youd have to build something rather huge for it to be too
big to run on our layout. (John Neals 14-wide trains, for example - they wont
fit... *grin*)
