if you are looking for technic tank treads/coveyer belts go here:

Anyone made conveyor belts from these?  I'm working on one for my train layout.
I'm using 1x3 bricks every 10 links or so - they fit perfectly right over one
link.  You do have to be careful that there is a constant sidewall all the way
around the path of the 1x3, otherwise it catches on the edge as it's going
past.

I'm trying to get my hopper cars to dump into a bin, and then have the conveyor
re-load them into the train cars.  Haven't found LEGO pieces that work well as
cargo.  Currently working with (unpopped) popcorn.  I figure since I'll be
using this setup at a train show, I don't want to risk spilling valuable LEGO
all over the place.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has done this...

Havn't tried, but it sounds great, I may try that.  I'd think 1x1 round
plates would work.
