Hi, my name Is Alex Farlie,

I hope that by now Lugnet has heard about my intetions to get together a
fan- writen web-zine.

I think your effort is laudable, but I would *strongly* suggest that you
employ a spell checker, or better yet, get some human to review any copy that
you personally write (spell checkers are not infallible, one thing they miss
is InCorrect Capitalization), as the grammar and spelling in your posts are
probably not up to the standards of a fanzine... (This applies to posts that
you write in places like dear-lego as well, spelling errors detract from one's
message, making the reader think that the writer is either uneducated or
couldn't be bothered to get things right. That's surely not the case with you,
Alex...)

I understand perfectly.  A magazine has to get things right. Including the
spelling and grammer.  Being in the UK ISTR a newspaper called The Garduian
- which had frequent errors.

I belive publishing practice is to have an independet person whose sole
responsibility is document proofing.

Some of the materil on the Train Depot could prove useful and I would not
wnat to unessacirly duplicate it.

I did try to get in touch with that site but my mail was not responded to.
(I suspect a technical difficulty..)

One doesn't typically get in touch with sites, one gets in touch with the
humans that run them. In this case there has been a lot of wondering about
where Matthew Bates has gotten off to of late, you're not the first person
asking. That is a great site even if it hasn't been updated in a while.

The reason I was trying to contact was to obtain rights to use the material
on the site in the magazine. (with credit).

I feel it is only fair to ask and possibly accept a polite  refusal rather
than face a lawsuit for copyright infringment.

I am fairly sure that most fan-maintained sites would not mind material
being used (being non-commercial) but it is very sensible to check first.
(This is especially relevant after recent events.)

Thanks for your comments.

If you have article sugestions or copy for inclusion let me know.

Alex
