Most of us believe this set will be generally available in all countries
that sell the 9V train line. S@H is not yet taking orders for it, last
time I checked

One place to see the picture is:
http://www.lugnet.com/pause/search/?query=4553
TLG tends to put the 9V label on things that have 9V track in them, or
that are powered.
We train fans categorize something as 9V if it is from the 9V era.
I think your question is quite interesting. If this unit is powered
(presumably to make the brushes spin) it would be the first 9V powered
accessory, I believe. So far all 9V items have been unpowered, or have
actually be locomotives or power cars. Never accessories.
One argument against it being powered is the way the brushes are
mounted. This set appears to use the same brush mountings that sets such
as gas n wash express (http://www.lugnet.com/pause/search/?query=6397)
used. These mountings make it difficult to transmit power into the
brushes.
Another argument is the way the carriages that hold the brushes are.
This set would require two micromotors to motorize it, as there is no
clearance for under-rail power transmission via shaft, nor would the
carriages allow easy power transmission without a sliding bushing.
So I'd say no.
However, turning this into a powered model cleanly would be an extremely
fascinating exercise for the Technic literate among us.

| Thanks for the insight. Just dreaming for future Lego creations. Maybe some person will come up with the motorization schematic? I have a wish that 9v would have more to offer. I was sort of disappointed in the recent catalogue. Kurt :-) (...) (26 years ago, 13-Feb-99, to lugnet.trains)
