Re: Pantograph powered LEGO trains? —John Neal
Holy Cow, look who delurked;-) Nice model and photo detail; perhaps you could share some of your photography secrets with us camera-impaired types? BTW, think you can make it to La Crosse in March? -John (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.org.us.gmlug, lugnet.trains.org)

Re: Pantograph powered LEGO trains? —Larry Pieniazek
Those of you that don't know... Brian is a "stealth" member of GMLTC, he doesn't live in the Twins any more but still comes out for shows. While he is from the "paint and stickers are OK" school of modeling, which I don't normally hold truck with, (...)      (...) hehe. Mike tries to hoist me by my own petard but I'm slipperier than that. I'll merely allege that his models would look just fine to me even without the paint and stickers. That he chooses to augment them is merely his own personal demon. (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.org.us.gmlug, lugnet.trains.org)

Re: Pantograph powered LEGO trains? —Brian Williams
Larry, Thanks for the build-up . . . but one correction: I abhor painting bricks and would never attempt such a transgression. However, stickers and decals are acceptable because they extend the creative possibilites without permanently damaging the (...)         Re: Pantograph powered LEGO trains? —Brian Williams
All, Larry mentioned a train in the GMLTC pictures that is not a standard Lego color. It is my beloved locomotive "Kathryn" which pulls the royal train on my layout. The dark green color and brass bands are achieved through the use of stickers only (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.org.us.gmlug, lugnet.trains.org)

Re: Pantograph powered LEGO trains? —Frank Buiting
(...) Great work! I love the detail in the models, I found it a nice resource to add detail to MOCs. Does the locomotive have a 12V motor and the tender a 9V? Is the 12V motor an empty shell or is it powered? I was thinking to experiment a little (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.org.us.gmlug, lugnet.trains.org)

Re: Pantograph powered LEGO trains? —Brian Williams
Frank, Kathryn is powered by an old 12v motor pulling power from a dummy 9v mechanism in the tender. The old 12v motors generally run quieter, smoother, slower, and just look better for steam loks than the 9v ones. The new 9v motors, however, are (...)      Brain, Wow, those are some very impressive examples of your work. I'd love to see in some more detail on how you create the stickers.          Re: Pantograph powered LEGO trains? —Brian Williams
James, I responded to your post earlier today but it didn't show-up so here's another try. I've been making Z-scale models under a microscope for years so Lego scale is a cakewalk in comparison. Kathryn, made in 1996, was decorated entirely with (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.org.us.gmlug, lugnet.trains.org)

Re: Pantograph powered LEGO trains? —Larry Pieniazek
(...) That seems hard to believe! Are you, for instance, putting stickers on all sides and faces of those 1x1 with side studs? That is a lot of VERY fine sticker work.
