Thanks, Steve. Very true, especially in white... I have to tell you that
those parts gave me fits, though, as the whole assembly is rather
fragile until you get plates on both the top and bottom of the plate
like section that sticks out of the end of the 1/2 arch. That
contributes to the rather "thick" appearance of the eaves, as there are
three plates worth of thickness there. The stairstep part has a lot more
ways to tie it in to the building wall. I had to finagle the corners a
bit to get the walls to work out.
One thing I did that I liked, was that the roof is 1 stud narrower than
the eaves, staggered a 1/2 stud on each side, and is removable. It is
sitting on a rim of tiles and there are about 6 1x2 tiles with center
top studs that are the only attachment between the eaves and the roof.
I did that to allow me to at some point detail the interior (it isn't
yet...) That, and I miscalculated how wide to make the building 3 times
in a row and was getting tired of tearing down the walls and redoing the
eaves so I just sort of "fudged" it. Came out good though, as the 1/2
stud stagger is just what's needed to simulate a gutter or similar.
Redoing it, I probably would try to stagger the top row of plates so the
eaves were recessed and not as thick.
