Very impressive! I don't know what is the most amazing: the odometer itself or
the extensive write-up ;o)

Would you have more details (MLCad?) of the gearing/ratcheting between dials?

(...) Thanks! Both were fun ;) (...) I don't yet, though I can easily do that. The 4-spoked technic joiners, when turned, rotate the 16T gear at the opposite end of the dial. That gear then connects to two idler gears which drive a 40T gear; that (...) (16 years ago, 5-Aug-08, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.trains)

As is my tendency, here’s an absurdly long treatise describing the development of a LEGO Train Odometer Car (a.k.a. the “LEGOdometer”). (URL) A Little Background.
