Thomas,

thanks for your feedback - I think the height issue will sort itself out with
the additional modules I'm starting on right now. Adjacent modules will either
run to greater heights (as for the tunnel mountain) or as low as 2-3 bricks
high, where connection of modules will definitely bear down to using plates on
top. I sure wouldn't mind going for 8 bricks high, but I am just way too short
on old bricks for the inner structure. If anyone can point me to a cheap source
for tons of 2*4 bricks (red and white and non-CA would be my prerequisites), I'd
be most grateful. Shipping them in from the US just doesn't seem like a
reasonable option, given that I live in Germany... I'll be happy to take offers
from anywhere in the EU, though...

As for the technic pins, I have found them to be reliable - the floor I am
building on is not exactly level both due to the old wooden base and the thick
carpet - thus my tendency to over-engineer the alignment. You are right, I don't
care much about the visible red sides - actually I like them that way, since
most attempts at building mountains so far also resulted in a heavy use of red
bricks. I am only now moving over to include more gray, brown, eventually BURPS
and LURPS where useful. I've just placed a sizable BrickLink order for missing
parts for the next two modules to keep things going - especially since the kids
have got the idea and start to fill the scenery with "life" (i.e. playing around
with minifigs, currently designing an ice-cream stand and a playground).

I'm curious where this will lead to - apart from the foreseeable spending of
more money on new bricks ;)

Regards,

Jerry

(...) The general approach looks sound. The module size is good. It's easy to forget when building that your model will often have to get through the doors of your home and into your car---usually by one person working alone. I wonder if using (...) (17 years ago, 29-Dec-07, to lugnet.trains)
