  Hiawatha steam locomotive

For those of you who have been to either of the last two NMRA National Train Shows, you might have seen my (URL) Hiawatha train set>, (URL) You may have also noticed that the steam locomotive was more often a static display, giving way to diseasels.   Re: Hiawatha steam locomotive

(...) Huzzah! I was happy to see pictures of it running on Brickshelf yesterday, wish I could have seen it in person. I eagerly await photos of your fix, I may have to adopt it if my designs will allow. --Tony (17 years ago, 16-Nov-07, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Hiawatha steam locomotive

(...) Hey Benn- Congrats on coming up with a functioning design solution-- I know too well the problems of creating detailed MOCs that look great but run poorly:-/ And I don't even deal in steam! Ross has had EXTENSIVE experience in that area. I (...) (17 years ago, 16-Nov-07, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Hiawatha steam locomotive

(...) Thats great to hear. Your Hiawatha passenger train is quite nice and steam engines look much better when running than wasting away in a train yard. I know all to well how finicky LEGO steam can be. My (URL) Pennsy Decapod> is a pretty solidly (...) (17 years ago, 18-Nov-07, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Hiawatha steam locomotive

(...) Hey John, thanks for the kind words. Indeed, Ross might be one of the best steam builders out there. I don't know how you manage to get those huge trains moving with the little 9v motors, but they are slick. I'm happy with my quiet little (...) (17 years ago, 24-Nov-07, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Hiawatha steam locomotive

(...) Hi Cale (and Tony), thanks as well for the kind words. As background, the Hi has three sets of wheels, I chose to fix the pilot truck and the drivers to the boiler, using only one set of flanged drivers. Without reworking the whole mechanics, (...)   Re: Hiawatha steam locomotive

(...) Oh, that's fantastic news, Benn! Although the brown is perhaps closer in tonal value to the Hi's dark red, it seemed a bit odd to me to go with that color instead of TLG's dark red. I'm very excited to see your "repaint"! :-) I will be (...) (17 years ago, 24-Nov-07, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Hiawatha steam locomotive

(...) We'll I finally was able to snap a few photos of the front truck fix for my Hiawatha at (URL) last week's show>. Before the fix the engine ran fine at home but would always derail at shows. After some diagnostics, it became clear that with the (...) (17 years ago, 16-Feb-08, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Hiawatha steam locomotive

(...) Very clever and simple design. The Train does look better with the dark red. And the GPs are nice too. It's sweet that you were able to work in a headlight. Didn't notice that before. I haven't messed with lighting too much. The 1x2 9v light (...) (17 years ago, 17-Feb-08, to lugnet.trains, FTX)
